IQA1:SI1-SI2-SI3     People, Processes, Products

(such as involving/evolving research and development, philosophies, theories, principles, values, metaphysics, metrics, tools/technologies, frameworks/standards, applications, automation, continuous improvement and levels of value, integration, alignment, harmonization, maturity, capability, proficiency, effectiveness, efficiency, professionalism, satisfaction, morale, camaraderie, adaptability, unity and excellence)

Whether utilizing art, science or a blend (e.g. art, science, technology, business), you need to maintain and optimize your personal cycle, and other macro/micro motor, engine or other cycles related to your organization. For example consider the following reality cycle...

{ You need people following process and applying collective wisdom and creativity to: create products that can become part of the process utilized by people to create other or improved products and services, as well as progressively better people, teams, organizations, value, customer loyalty and profits. }

Perhaps among related matters that would be interesting to debate, is the order or importance (i.e. people, processes, products... respectively, and respectfully). From an inherent quality perspective however these three must progressively and increasingly integrate and/or fuse into one. Products therefore could move to position one as enablers and partners, particularly at the juncture in evolution referred to as the 'next generation' (see Next Generation near end of the Qual IT and kloIQ webpage).

For general awareness we received the following in a July 2006 email. We take no credit if our site or prior exchanges with ISACA indirectly helped somehow to generate the idea.

“Introducing inaugural issue of COBIT Focus newsletter”

“This first edition has been put together with help from several members of the COBIT Steering Committee to kick-start what is expected to be a helpful communication tool. In the future we invite you, a member of the growing user community, to submit articles for publication. For more information on this opportunity, please e-mail the editors at publication@isaca.org. Additionally, please tell us what you think of this first issue. Your responses will help us evaluate the value of the newsletter to COBIT users and identify any necessary changes. The following table is only an example or a representation of service thoughts. It was created in early 2006. If you have a related question email info@inherentquality.com. Note the May 2006 launch of InherentQuality.Com correlated with the "First HarperTorch paperback printing: May 2006" of Pirsig's ZAMM (which since 1974 when it first appeared has sold millions of copies in twenty-seven languages and of course is also the bestselling novel rejected by the greatest number of potential publishers, 121). Our research has included reading ZAMM. Although it is available in full online, we purchased a copy because we wanted to support the author and publisher.

Concept and Approach            (key to…)

key to managing inherent risk and to solving business versions of the Rubik’s cube for testing and other strategic and tactical matters while ensuring means exist to inherently add value and more innately ensure compliance to numerous regulations and prominent icons for quality

Awareness Sessions

An important aspect of implementing an inherent quality mindset is ensuring a common foundation. This can be largely achievable within one month (details available upon request). The awareness sessions are in fact an essential study program which can enable deeper foundational philosophical awakening, which can be utilized by QUAL IT and resultant initiatives. The Inherent Quality Mindset is a framework for the collective mind. The Awareness Sessions are a separate item that is available following the Intro to Inherent Quality.

Surveys

Appendix C (Qual IT) of the manuscript provides a foundation for generating an IT quality survey.  Included are basic template, process, legend and 50 survey line items with related questions and/or supporting detail; issuance of the Qual IT survey may be a logical next step after the awareness sessions. Qual IT line items cover the following and more: strategic and tactical planning, quality organization and documented corporate quality management system, team and personal processes, requirements management, change management, configuration management and data management, business continuity and contingency management, project management, risk management, test management, records and information management, deployment management, service and support management, security management, benchmarking and research, executive involvement and support, governance, analysis and action, technology policy and life-cycle management, standards development and management, internal controls and independent assessments, coordination and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Facility Requirements

The Intro to Inherent Quality typically requires: PC configured for internet usage and with current versions of software used by the InherentQuality.Com website.  Additional electronic files if required would be provided in advance for loading onto the corporate PC, which should be set-up and tested in the session room by corporate staff at least 1 hour prior to the start of the session.  PC must allow internet roaming without restrictions.  Where a large room is involved: the PC is connected to a sound system; and microphones are provided for Presenter and audience. Where multiple sites are participating, testing prior to the session includes related PC and audio/video conference operations. Involved room or rooms must comfortably seat all registered participants. Setup technician is to be present at all times to quickly resolve issues should they arise. Refreshments should be available for brief break at midpoint.

Cost

$0 (Contact will provide “Intro to Inherent Quality” free of charge, however the organization must make all arrangements and cover all costs up-front associated with travel, ground transportation, hotel and meals. September forward, day rates will also apply, as may billing associated with the manuscript.)

As example, Intro and other services can be provide remotely or onsite. The following additional information then is input or a representation of service thoughts.

(ii)

Arrangements for the onsite Intro to Inherent Quality should include early arrival the evening before the session. Afternoon sessions should typically include an additional night's stay. Post-intro, implementation services are available and would be customized to meet the particular needs of the organization.  Discounted rates should typically be considered only for engagements scheduled to at minimum exceed 12 months.

(iii)

(iv)

The Inherent Quality Manuscript will be referenced along with other website content during the Intro to Inherent Quality.

(v)

Awareness Sessions would typically have each attendee utilize a personal copy of the manuscript. One electronic copy of the manuscript can be provided for unlimited internal printing and distribution. A related website/research donation would be appreciated. And we encourage regular visits to InherentQuality.Com to be aware of details concerning new versions and/or deliverables. The manuscript among other serves as an enabler for discoveries. It can be utilized within established associations and companies, as well as by individuals to invoke thinking leading to start-up ventures and potential future IPOs related to the organizations and products they created thanks in part to the thinking inspired by the manuscript.

(vi)

Support network arrangements for improvement initiatives would be determined with the organization. If the organization prefers related parties could contract direct with the organization, however vendor management assistance can be provided.

(vii)

Matters of interest to InherentQuality.Com range the full spectrum of the profession. Services can be provided to identify expert solution providers for delivery of specific technical topics and/or tasks. Note the launch of InherentQuality.Com correlates with the “First HarperTorch paperback printing: May 2006” of Pirsig’s ZAMM (Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance; which since 1974 when it first appeared, has sold millions of copies in twenty-seven languages… and of course is also the bestselling novel rejected by the greatest number of potential publishers, 121). ZAMM: is assigned to the category Philosophy; includes new insights in a new introductory section; represents a reprint from original work in the seventies; is an inquiry into values. Furthermore it is a narration of a summer trip, undertaken by parent and child, which intersects philosophical problems and represents an odyssey into life's fundamental questions. It is hailed one of the most important and influential books written in the past half-century that transformed a generation and became a uniquely exhilarating classic – transcendent, resonant with myriad confusions of existence and small essential triumphs that propel readers forward through discovery, growth, acceptance, powerful examination of how we live, and meditation on how to live better. Inherent Quality is interested in ZAMM (e.g. see http://robertpirsig.org contains papers concerning the Metaphysics of Quality; Robert M. Pirsig & Quality; The entire book online) and more.

(viii)

From the Intro to Inherent Quality, and as you read, venture from and return to the related manuscript (and InherentQuality.Com website), you will be able to better identify and improve upon the inherent quality and qualities of your organization.

(ix)

The Awareness sessions will further prepare you for Qual IT surveys which will further help to generate valuable improvements for your organization.

(x)

Among other the Intro to Inherent Quality will bring clarity to these words “Value-add is an excellence goal, collaboration a means, ensuring inherent quality the ultimate Key”, and “You’re (quality) : the critical component of the inherent success formula”.  Typically the Intro to Inherent Quality also will:

(a) show related benefits and implementation approach and that the body of knowledge for software and information technology professionals is largely a challenging moving target that is steadily expanding through the profession’s DNA discoveries and innovations which have resulted in (and continue to result in) numerous considerations and terms from A (Accountability) to Z (Zen - zero defects), and that presently each of us is provided with many valuable (profession related) input sources from frameworks, technology offerings, enewsletters, blogs, whitepapers, webcasts and so on;

(b) provide an opportunity to explore, ponder and synthesize such things, as part of an introduction that can provide insight or inspire personal, organizational and industry gains for starters as well as experts.

(xi)

Further the Intro to Inherent Quality will emphasize how each of us within the profession is a critical component of the profession’s various success formulas (and therefore can provide insight and value to each other), and that taken towards the extreme, that collectively we are the key to increasingly making quality more inherent, and therefore the key to increasing means for better management of inherent risk and better alignment of IT and business; and as well for progressive continuous improvements to further enable innate innovations and value-adds. In fact as well that as one, that we are the key to meaningful expansions to our profession and to valuable blends of such things as science, art, technology and business.

(xii)

Further the Intro to Inherent Quality will show strong progress and prevalent themes while making predictions and showing that we are only really starting to have a sea, sky and interconnected universe of enrichment as a result of the hard work of many to this juncture in our evolution. It will state that through past, present and future efforts that we are evolving towards greater levels of both quality and simplicity. And that even more so than in past, that the future will have large numbers ethically working as one while striving to optimize the quality and value equation; particularly as for the common folk (presenter included) quality needs to be simple… and for that to be, it must ever be and more so become – inherent. It will also call for feedback at junctures such as with respect to the following statement: “quality should be no more or less important than security and other topics of frameworks and standards, with a belief that each of several topics or issues related to our profession may be more important than others in relation to a particular enterprise – and that determining related urgency, importance, priorities and thresholds will always be the call of the stakeholders within the given enterprise; particularly given (i) collaboration is to some degree evidence that quality is in-built; (ii) quality is dependent upon highly complex interrelationships involving many enterprise specific personal, process, organizational, technological and other factors. As such quality should be no more or less important, however (i) fully matured would be intrinsic and pervasive, and (ii) pursuance of it does result in progressively making things easier and better for all associated (or in contact) with it.”

For Communication to Participants: Inherent Quality appeals to organizations of any size and maturity level, has a prime audience of software and IT professionals, mentors and students… and a secondary audience of all who interface with the prime. The concept appeals to all levels including C level executives. The session will introduce the concept and walk through valuable information which is far reaching, correlates to the work of others, is specific to software and information technology, builds on such things as ISO 9000 quality terminology (e.g. quality is degree to which a set of inherent characteristics fulfils requirements). Among other the session will bring clarity to related statements. Inherent Quality is related to ZAMM, frameworks, lifecycle technologies, standards and more, and the session will show benefits and an implementation approach while providing an opportunity to explore, ponder and synthesize related matters that provide insight or inspire personal, organizational and industry gains for starters as well as experts. Further the session will emphasize important elements, offer predictions and call for feedback on powerful statements.

We look forward to sharing information with professionals in any region of the world.

“Ciad Mile Failte” (One Hundred Thousand Welcomes) for reading the following and giving it your time and consideration. Hello my name is Ron Richard and I wish you a great summer and rest of 2006… as well as a long and happy life with many hugely successful and enjoyable years following 2006. Here is a brief paper I wrote for someone to potentially add to Wikipedia. And here is an excerpt of a few words stated in Chapter 9 of the Inherent Quality manuscript (contact us to read Chapter 9 and the rest of the manuscript in full as it contains evidence of and means for inherent quality).

If you would like to talk about quality send an email to info@inherentquality.com after reviewing our website pages including the additional excerpt from the manuscript which is provided on our RoadMap webpage.

An inquiry into quality

By Ron Richard

An inquiry into quality (Part-1): Greetings! I start first saying Thanks for reading; and second saying I hope to draw only insightful positive comments. Next I dispense a brief quote from Pirsig writings to which this series of inquiries may relate: “exploration into the meaning of the term Quality, an exploration which he saw as a route through the mountains of the spirit”. Next I add it is my intention to respectfully and humbly appeal to business and academic professionals (and to those studying to join our profession); though at times my words may appear more from one side than the other. Therefore to diverse audience I hope I am easy enough to follow. With introduction conveyed, I open the inquiry as follows. The body of knowledge for software and information technology professionals is largely a challenging moving target that is steadily expanding through the profession’s DNA discoveries and innovations. As a result I would be interested to hear whether the professional community {albeit members who are a versatilist, specialist or other such as solution architect…“I have been encouraging all IT Pros to see themselves as Solution Architects”…“Solution Architects are professionals who are not only proficient in the technology, but professional in the understanding of the business practices and premises driving the technology”…“Being a certified technology professional is great”…“combine that ability with intrinsic business knowledge and understanding, you increase your value exponentially” – David M. Sanders, MCSE, MVP, CEO Culminis} believes they are able to find the time they feel they should have for research, thinking and professional development. In 2006 each of us is provided with many valuable (profession related) input sources from frameworks, technology offerings, enewsletters, blogs, whitepapers, webcasts and so on including the Inherent Quality manuscript and various articles on InherentQuality.Com such as: Strengthening IT Governance and Adding Value With COBIT, COBIT Inherent Qualities PO1-PO7, PO8 Manage Quality, Assess and Manage IT Risks – Manage Projects, Identify Automated Solutions, Acquire and Implement (continued), Acquire and Implement (exceptional results).  However I wonder whether readers feel they are able to make the time they should have to explore, ponder and synthesize such things, and/or for general readings that may also provide insight or inspire personal, organizational and industry gains. In fact (with respect for the readers), I would be interested to hear from readers relative to these five items.

An inquiry into quality (Part-2): Each of us within the profession is a critical component of the profession’s various success formulas, and therefore can provide insight and value to each other. Taken towards the extreme, collectively we are the key to increasingly making quality more inherent, and therefore the key to increasing means for better management of inherent risk and better alignment of IT and business; and as well for progressive continuous improvements to further enable innate innovations and value-adds. As one, we are the key to meaningful expansions to our profession and to valuable blends of such things as science, art, technology and business. Certainly the present state is that we have come a long way; however are only really starting to have a sea, sky and interconnected universe of enrichment as a result of the hard work of many to this juncture in our evolution. With such it is only appropriate to extend sincere special thanks to all contributors of the Internet: a virtual gateway to exploring, understanding and adding to the steadily developing software and information technology industry and profession’s DNA genes. Through past, present and future efforts we are evolving towards greater levels of both quality and simplicity. Even more so than in past, the future will have large numbers ethically working as one while striving to optimize the quality and value equation; particularly as for the common folk (this blogger included) quality needs to be simple… and for that to be, it must ever be and more so become – inherent. I of course, look forward to seeing (and participating in) industry contributions towards this elusive end-state; and politely ask readers for agreement or comments relative to the following statement.  Before you read it however, know that I come in peace, with beliefs that include that we all should be supporters of standards, yet particularly fond of frameworks that permit the creative force within the members of the profession to be realized into innovative solutions, that serve our clientele as well as potentially our fellow members.

“quality should be no more or less important than security and other topics of frameworks and standards, with a belief that each of several topics or issues related to our profession may be more important than others in relation to a particular enterprise – and that determining related urgency, importance, priorities and thresholds will always be the call of the stakeholders within the given enterprise; particularly given (i) collaboration is to some degree evidence that quality is in-built; (ii) quality is dependent upon highly complex interrelationships involving many enterprise specific personal, process, organizational, technological and other factors. As such quality should be no more or less important, however (i) fully matured would be intrinsic and pervasive, and (ii) pursuance of it does result in progressively making things easier and better for all associated (or in contact) with it.”

IQA5:SI7     Events (includes collaborative virtual gatherings)

Our manuscript provides evidence of and a means for increasing levels of inherent quality. With such among other we dream of collaboration with steps leading to eventual inherent quality global summits.

This special interest is intended to mention or inspire events which are creativity drivers. Therefore potential friendly names for this special interest (and/or for related events) could be 007, and/or Area 5:7 (or Area 57)... {perhaps because the events represent special agents (of change) and/or involve special agents (of change)... perhaps because they call for science applied, yet blended with fiction to produce new realities}.

To prepare for such events, you should start preparing now. For example, within your process of preparation read the:

Within your process of preparation be sure to note the “Quality” Weblog posts, June 25, 2006 in category ZEN.

Also be sure to note pages 348-349 of the manuscript. They are from a fairly intelligent fellow.

You may also want to note the words of this doctor (you might find the words insightful, inspiring and/or at least very interesting).

Furthermore as a means of preparing yourself for such events, exercise your creativity regularly. For example use the creative genius in you to determine your next steps for applying your ethical and professional creativity, and collaboration skills. To elaborate perhaps help to create or update a product, and increasingly make it match a key word within its name (for example perhaps the product contains one of these as a key word within its name: easy, rational, visual, work, quality, solution, wizard, power).
